Nationally known public education advocate Jamie Vollmer will be speaking in Baldwin County this Friday, Feb. 5. He will be at the James Smith indoor facility at Foley high school for two appearances. A general community meeting will begin at 9 a.m. An afternoon session will be held for teachers.
Vollmer, the author of Schools Cannot Do It Alone, was once a harsh critic of public education who was convinced that the answer to education’s woes was to run schools like a business.
However, this all changed during a question and answer session with an auditorium full of teachers one day. He retells this occurrence with his now famous “blueberry story” which you can see here.
The event is sponsored by the Baldwin County Education Coalition. For more information, go to firstname.lastname@example.org
Vollmer’s message is especially timely at this time when public education in Alabama seems to be constantly under attack.
